As a Senior Litigation Paralegal at Heartland Dental, you must be capable of handling a substantial workload in a fast‐paced, dynamic in‐house legal department.  You’ll thrive in this role if you have strong communication skills and are a detail oriented, proactive, problem solver. The Senior Litigation Paralegal will play a critical role in all phases of litigation and regulatory inquiries, support the Legal Team’s processes and projects, and contribute to the key initiatives of the department.

Below is an overview of the key duties and responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Manage and oversee litigation case handling, including court deadlines and internal milestones for all types of cases, whether at an administrative agency or general jurisdiction court.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to effectively manage all phases of the litigation lifecycle, with a primary focus on employment and malpractice litigation.
  • Gather and organize documents for discovery responses or filings in ongoing litigation.
  • Collaborate with the Legal Team on creation of scalable processes, legal department tools, and resources to improve new or existing practices and systems for the Legal Team.
  • Review marketing materials, videos, articles, and presentations for legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Special projects such as PowerPoint presentations, Legal Department reports, and support tasks for the Legal Department.
  • The position will have access to minimum PHI necessary for performing job-related functions; regular HIPAA training, aligning with the specific role and responsibilities, will be required; and the individual will need to protect PHI and maintain data safeguards

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must reside in the St. Louis or Chicago area.

    Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2 years of litigation experience or 5 years in the legal field specializing in litigation.
  • Experience should include: litigation, legal concepts, and database reporting.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as an ability and willingness to learn new software.
  • Organizational skills, precision, and attention to detail;
  • Ability to handle pressure and manage multiple tasks;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with internal stakeholders and external contacts, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues on various projects; and
  • Capable of working independently and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Willingness to travel a few days per year for occasional onsite team meetings.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Working with contract management, malpractice or employment litigation management
  • Experience with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw)

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
