Are you a technology professional seeking a challenging career working for a market leader in a rapidly growing industry? Heartland Dental is seeking an experienced and adaptable Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (GCP) to join our Technology Transformation organization. This role focuses on designing, building, securing, and operating a cloud-native platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), enabling application teams to deploy and scale services through modern, automated, and reliable infrastructure. In this role, you will partner closely with application developers, architects, and operations teams to enable cloud-native delivery, CI/CD automation, and infrastructure-as-code–driven provisioning. You will play a critical role in shaping and evolving a secure, scalable platform that empowers teams to deliver high-quality services with speed and confidence.

Heartland Dental is the nation's largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,000 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in 1,900+ dental offices. Each Heartland Dental supported office is unique to the community and the patients they serve. Supported doctors are the clinical leaders of their practice, retain full clinical autonomy, and establish their own care philosophies. All Heartland Dental supported doctors are united by a common goal: delivering the highest quality dental care and patient experiences.

To give you an idea of the team structure, you will report to the platform owner, partnering with application, networking and InfoSec team members supporting cloud systems and applications as part of an expanding Technology Transformation organization.

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

  • Design, build, and operate secure, scalable infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform
  • Provision and manage Cloud Run services and Cloud SQL instances using Terraform
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code standards and reusable Terraform modules
  • Build, support, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Cloud Build and Git-based workflows
  • Partner with application development teams to enable cloud-native and serverless architectures
  • Partner with Infrastructure Systems and Networking on architectural changes to our shared VPC
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational visibility using native GCP tooling
  • Manage identity, access, and security controls using IAM and least privilege best practices
  • Support modernization and migration of legacy workloads
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment, and runtime issues across environments
  • Partner with leadership in hardening the platform through organization policies and other best practices
  • Assist in defining and tracking KPIs related to reliability, deployment frequency, and operational efficiency
  • Promote a culture of automation, resilience, and continuous improvement

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience (minimum of 3 years in a DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or SRE role)
  • Hands-on experience deploying and operating workloads on Google Cloud Platform
  • Strong experience using Terraform to provision and manage GCP infrastructure
  • Experience deploying and supporting services on Cloud Run and managing Cloud SQL
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, security, and identity concepts
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently diagnose infrastructure and deployment issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across platform, application, and business teams
  • High level of personal initiative, accountability, and attention to detail

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with Kubernetes or Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
  • Experience with Vertex AI deployments including Agent Engine, RAG Engine and Vertex AI Search
  • Experience with monitoring and observability practices and tooling
  • Experience supporting event-driven or distributed systems
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment
