Position Summary:

Data Analyst – Infrastructure, Reporting, Strategic Sourcing

We’re looking for a Data Analyst to help transform supplier and transactional data into structured, business-ready insights. You’ll work closely with our Data Services team to support the development of reliable data pipelines, contribute to ELT workflows, and lead reporting efforts for sourcing and procurement.

This is a hybrid role that blends data transformation, modeling, and analytics enablement. The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and capable of supporting scalable data flows that power strategic reporting.

Heartland Dental is the nation's largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,000 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in over 1,800 dental offices. Each Heartland Dental supported office is unique to the community and the patients they serve. Supported doctors are the leaders of their practice and retain clinical autonomy. All Heartland Dental supported Doctors are united by a common goal: delivering the highest quality dental care and experiences to the communities they serve.

To give you an idea of the team structure, you will work on a team with a senior data analyst, reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing.

We prefer this role be based in St. Louis, Indianapolis or Effingham, IL, or within reasonable commuting distance to one of those offices.

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

  • Collaborate with the Data Services team to support and refine ELT processes (Extract, Load, Transform) for transactional and supplier data.
  • Assist with integration of new supplier or product datasets; structure and transform raw data into clean, analysis-ready datasets.
  • Build and maintain reporting layers and dashboards using BI tools (e.g., SAP Hana models, Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of data models for sourcing and procurement metrics.
  • Perform data validation, cleaning, and transformation to ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Help define and implement best practices around data governance and definitions.
  • Support ad hoc reporting and analytics requests across procurement and sourcing.
  • Other projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years in a Data Analyst or hybrid Data Analyst/Engineer role with a bachelor’s in data science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience working with relational databases on Microsoft SQL Server Mgt Studio
  • Demonstrated experience working within an ELT framework—comfortable handling raw ingested data and transforming it for reporting.
  • Experience with SAP Analytics (Hana) and BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Strong attention to detail, data quality, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to travel up to 1 time per month for 2–3 days at a time.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical thinking and a collaborative approach.

Desirable Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a data analytics or data engineering support role.
  • Familiarity with dbt or similar transformation tools within modern data stacks.
  • Exposure to procurement, sourcing, or finance data sets.
  • Preference given to candidates that can work from St. Louis, Effingham, or Indianapolis offices
  • Ability to work from office 3 days/week

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
